The NOAHH Q&A

If you’re tuned into the North Carolina underground music scene, then there is a fair chance you’ve acquainted yourself with this interviewee. NOAHH is a talented musician and artist based out of the state of North Carolina and is also the owner and operator of In Tha Fest, a homegrown and independent music festival based out of Raleigh, North Carolina. NOAHH has worked with various artist such as; Ducey Gold, TiaCorine, MAVI, BIGBABYGUCCI, Wifisfuneral, and many more throughout the festival’s “In Tha Carolinas” concert series. This Q&A was a fun and entertaining one, to say the least. I hope you all enjoy this one as much as I did.

Harrison Freeman: First off, I just want to welcome you to the Q&A segment on our website. It’s an absolute honor and privilege to have you here. With that being said, feel free to introduce yourself to our readers!

NOAHH: My name’s NOAHH, artist and creator of In Tha Fest.

Harrison Freeman: First I want to ask about your name. What does the “HH” mean?

NOAHH: HH stands for, “He’s Him,” or, “Heroically hated,” it’s my stamp as an artist. Single “H” is me as a businessman, human, etc. “HH” is me as a creative/artist. There’s nothing better than being yourself, so that’s why I kept my name and went by “NOAHH” to stamp it.

Harrison Freeman: Can you expound on where you’re from and what type of artist you are?

NOAHH: I’m based out of Raleigh, NC, and I’m Versatile, always expanding, and somebody you can look to for inspiration & motivation. When you feel or alone, NOAHH got you.

Harrison Freeman: With that said, can you share a little bit of what it’s like to be an artist in Raleigh? How does the city’s life inspire or affect your artistry?

NOAHH: Motivational, whole city feels slept on so I carry that with me. It inspires me to go harder and be the one to change the culture and the scene. To be the beacon of light we been waiting on.

Harrison Freeman: I agree, not only Raleigh; but North Carolina as a whole is beyond slept on. There’s so much hidden talent embedded within the roots of the state’s capital.  When did you know you were called to be an artist?

NOAHH: In 2014 the first time I ever made a song or touched a stage

Harrison Freeman: Elaborate on that moment. What was it like to touch the stage and perform?

NOAHH: Life changing. I felt like I was high on life. Almost blacked out in a way. I jus felt in a trance like something took me over.

Harrison Freeman: I bet it’s a surreal feeling being able to perform songs that you’ve created in front of a crowd. This really leads to my next question. You stated that you were the owner and creator of In Tha Fest. Could you give us a little insight into what that is, and how you came up with it?

NOAHH: It is a festival/event series created to highlight NC creatives from artists, media, vendors etc. Showing what we got in special here. I came up with it out of anger tbh, I had planned an event that was canceled due to covid and I was mad at the whole thing and having to be shut down so I tried to think of a way to give people something to look forward to when it was all over and that’s when Summer In Tha Carolina’s came to life

Harrison FreemanIt’s definitely unique, you don’t really see anyone doing ANYTHING for the city, let alone the state. Was this always apart of your plan as an artist? Or was it like this revelation that came over you?

NOAHH: Definitely a revelation, I used to do smaller shows with the group I was in & we’d maybe have 3-4 other artists tops. When the world shutdown I got time to think & really evaluate what was missing and what role I could play, and with that I noticed there wasn’t really any festivals let alone ones that were highlighting NC based people.

Harrison Freeman: What was that process like for you? Were there any trials when it came to setting the brand up? The business side always seems to demotivate people, but it didn’t stop you at all. Were there any times that made you question whether or not this was going to work?

NOAHH: Stressful but also fairly easy, I’ve been blessed enough to make relationships overtime with people who own companies that do fencing, staging, security, etc so really jus used my friends as resources, built a budget and figured out what I had to do to reach it. The biggest trial was figuring out how to brand it in a way that could be global and expand beyond NC. People scared of the business side cuz they scared to lose. I’m not. That’s what comes with it. Trials and tribulations. Learning from what doesn’t work and continuing to do what does. I never question myself and I never question my dream, because I control my destiny. There’s nothing to question.

Harrison Freeman: Well, everything has seemed to work for you thus far. You’ve accomplished many things and worked with plenty of reputable people. I’m sure you’ve developed many friendships along the way.

Harrison Freeman: When it comes to creating a lineup do you find it hard to mix friends in with that side of things?

NOAHH: it can get hard to mix in friends especially when I try to have a relationship with everybody I work with but I think everybody understands the bigger goal and purpose and jus waits their turn, supporting regardless.

Harrison Freeman: I noticed you’re not the headliner ever though you’re the creator. Would you say that sometimes there are various roles that are included when it comes to being an artist that also runs a business?

NOAHH: Yeah you gotta be honest with yourself and put the betterment of the show before anything else, it wouldn’t make sense for me to headline over an artist like wifisfuneral, mavi, bigbabygucci or tia corine, they’re all bigger than me.

Harrison Freeman: I love that you mentioned being honest with yourself. I feel as though a lot of people aren’t that way anymore. They let egos get in the way.

Harrison Freeman: With the artists you mentioned, what goes into your process of picking a lineup? Is it a tedious process?

NOAHH: Not really, I usually try to work with different people to get new faces involved but after that I like to bring back my personal favorites and the people that do well / get received well.

Harrison Freeman: Do you have any funny or weird experiences when it comes to hosting or booking?

NOAHH: Yeah it can get weird with artists managing themselves or having managers that are weirdos but end of the day how I view it is, if you don’t wanna do it, imma go to the next person on my life cuz the show must go on

Harrison Freeman: Man, I feel like that’s the mindset required to do what you do. Persistent and intentional. What’s been some of your favorite moments as an artist?

NOAHH: jus seeing the reaction on peoples faces everytime, seeing the phones lights up, hearing them scream, shit really makes you feel high on life

Harrison Freeman: Well, I just want to say I’m super happy for you. I’m really thankful for what you’re doing for the state. I hope you continue to prosper. I’ll wrap it up with this question. Do you have any last words for our readers?

NOAHH: I just want everybody to know their dream is possible, chase it. Don’t let anything stop you, no excuses. When shit gets hard look at me, look at anybody you look up to and most importantly look in the mirror and realize you have a bigger purpose and doing it for more than jus yourself.

Harrison Freeman: Wise words. Thank you so much for your time.

NOAHH: Bet that, thank you!
